Dérive App
Last week, we got to try out the "Dérive app" in class, which is kinda cool. I'd known such applications for quite a while but I'd never really gotten a chance to use it. We picked the "New York" mode merely due to the fact that we felt like NY shares high similarity with Hong Kong. Oh well, as it turned out... not so much... at least according to the app itself. We got asked a lot to perform tasks at Central Park or do something totally New Yorkish. Still, we all find the novelty brought by this app "thought-provoking". The "derive" process shoved our minds onto the a new, exploratory path where we were given a chance to review the city with its usual mundaneness ripped off.
Task One"Collect the numbers 1-30 from the surroundings"
Thoughts: Right. The first task we got and it's already not an easy one. Felt like spending like 1/3 time finishing this task. Not exactly a fun task but it indeed slowed down our pace of observing. |
Task No. Unknown (A)"Find a person who is talking on the phone."
Thoughts: We went outside of Festival Walk for the previous task. So naturally, we stayed outside for this task as well. Even being out of the mall, it's not hard to find people using their mobile phones. What's interesting though was that the number of people who were talking on the phone was significantly less that of people using phones for other purposes. |
Task No. Unknown (B)"Find a place that can hide a body"
Thoughts: This one really stood out from the others. There aren't many good spots to hide a body in Festival Walks to be honest. Nonetheless, in the end, we managed to find a dark, eerily creepy spot near a backdoor (which, i believe, was locked up) to complete this task. |
